“While other artists have used apps to spruik their album, Bjork\u2019s app\u00a0is<\/em>\u00a0her album. You don\u2019t just play the music, you play\u00a0with<\/em>\u00a0the music. A mother app houses ten unique designed apps, which each contain a new song, music score and an interactive \u2018game\u2019 that lets you manipulate the track.”<\/p>\n

Scott Snibbe is\u00a0Biophilia<\/em>\u2019s executive producer…his company created the mother app and three song apps \u2013 \u2018Virus\u2019, \u2018Thunderbolt\u2019 and \u2018Cosmogony\u2019<\/p>\n

Bjork worked with Apple…this is a very Apple-heavy project, using iPads in live performance, etc.<\/p>\n

Virus’ is the latest song\/app to be released. What can you tell us about it?<\/strong><\/p>\n

SS: “It\u2019s as if you can touch this microscopic world. There\u2019s a series of cells and a virus that attacks the mother cell in the centre. It\u2019s kind of a game \u2013 you can fling the virus cells away, but if you do manage to do that, the song never progresses. So you have to lose the game to hear Bjork\u2019s song. It\u2019s really in line with the message of the song, which is the virus loves the cell so much, that she destroys him.”<\/p>\n

\n“I also think the economics of the music industry are a big deal. Sales of recorded music have collapsed, so apps are a way of generating revenue if you have one that\u2019s popular enough. And there\u2019s probably a sweet spot.\u00a0Biophilia<\/em>\u00a0is definitely a concept album kind of method – really big and expensive and time-consuming. But if you look at some of the other apps I\u2019ve made, you can make something quite small that\u2019s also quite popular. I think there\u2019s a way for musicians to partner with interactive artists.<\/strong>”<\/p>\n
