{"id":160,"date":"2011-09-27T14:59:35","date_gmt":"2011-09-27T18:59:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/idd.stojmirovic.org\/?page_id=160"},"modified":"2011-09-27T14:59:35","modified_gmt":"2011-09-27T18:59:35","slug":"meeting-notes","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/idd.stojmirovic.com\/?page_id=160","title":{"rendered":"Meeting Notes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Skype Thurs 1\/10\/2012<\/p>\n<p>Method<br \/>\ntesting in stages throughout the design proess<br \/>\nincluding the target audience\/culture at the table<br \/>\nhow to make a welcoming atmosphere with all senses for collaborative projects<br \/>\nbeing ready and open to change<br \/>\nto let go of control and allow the end result to shift, not knowing the end result<br \/>\nallow happy accidents between people and mediums<br \/>\nsense of respect and trust with the people at the table<br \/>\ndistribution of authority by having each person have an expertise and a final say in some part of the collaboration<br \/>\nlooking and finding<br \/>\nseeking out interdisciplinary project<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Skype Fri 11\/18\/2011<\/p>\n<p>what is it about the graphic design process that is different?<br \/>\nkey issues in gd thinking that make the discipline ripe to connect to others<\/p>\n<p>philosophy is a combination of all disciplines- GD is the new philosophy?<br \/>\nscientist believe in truths that is supported by their research<\/p>\n<p>something to be said about a fresh young mind, in the past students didn&#8217;t believe in truths till their prof proved them<\/p>\n<p>what is graphic design? so shifting<\/p>\n<p>dual tendency with university- to get a job- to open up your potential<\/p>\n<p>very new discipline- we have media-<br \/>\nparallel between philosophy and GD<\/p>\n<p>giving you voice and outlet<\/p>\n<p>core philosophy<br \/>\nproblem solving of design thinking and practical design<br \/>\ndesigning across curriculum- define and give examples<\/p>\n<p>core design skills for everyone<\/p>\n<p>what is the philosophy of design? by nature is inter.<br \/>\nwhen did it start and where did it come from?<br \/>\nwhy design thinking now?<br \/>\nwhat can you gain?<br \/>\nworking individually- uniting passions<br \/>\nworking with at team<br \/>\nhow to get your voice out<\/p>\n<p>don&#8217;t compartmentalize your life- find ways to connect everything that you do<\/p>\n<p>how do you build confidence as a graphic designer?<br \/>\nexperience with sharing and speaking<\/p>\n<p>Skype Tues 9\/29\/11<\/p>\n<p>historically always working for someone else. gd is well positioned to work interdisciplinary because of work done with clients in all fields.<\/p>\n<p>interdisciplinary work happens when it&#8217;s not a service base relationship, but when you are sharing knowledge. using that shared knowledge to create something innovative. recently gd has been employed by other disciplines to create these new fields such as web design and data visualization, motion graphics,<\/p>\n<p>app design most growing field. demand for graphic designers<\/p>\n<p>new ways in which designers work. science advances when two disciplines that are well developed come together. when two disciplines combines new jobs arise. parallel with visual culture. how culture is changing and that is creating new knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>should we have a chapter on new jobs that are emerging from problems that need cross disciplinary solutions? &#8211; show as info-graphics<\/p>\n<p>spread in center of book that highlights new jobs<\/p>\n<p>why would someone pick this book up?<\/p>\n<p>what does it mean on a couple of levels-<br \/>\nwithin the field of design?<br \/>\nstandard for designer to work across different mediums<br \/>\ngd is a transmedia before it was specialist now generalist<br \/>\nsome would argue you would be better to focus on one thing<br \/>\nwe don&#8217;t know where the edges are<\/p>\n<p>look at historically how designers have defined design<\/p>\n<p>the social entrepreneur<br \/>\ninfo graphic on how gd disciplines have multiplied<br \/>\nyou have to be an expert in your discipline before you venture out to others<\/p>\n<p>how do we nurture basic design thinking and still push the boundaries<\/p>\n<p>design thinking has more applications today then ever before<br \/>\nwriting is important for all disciplines<br \/>\npush for designing across the curriculum, how do you make your thoughts visual?<br \/>\nneed to look at nature and science magazines<br \/>\nhow gd and scientists collaborate<br \/>\ndesign thinking is desired across many disciplines<\/p>\n<p>practical application, theory, now, future<\/p>\n<p>solving real world problems vs &#8220;art&#8221; pieces<\/p>\n<p>=================<br \/>\nSkype Tue<strong> 9\/27\/11<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Nancy&#8217;s India Project<\/strong> \u2014\u00a0Let&#8217;s put that in the book. For example, evergreen college, or ways to accomplish interdisciplinarity.<\/p>\n<p>They don&#8217;t think about things as being compartmentalized, and they were so interesting in that way.<\/p>\n<p>Nancy&#8217;s program merging with business; visiting D school (design program w\/business at stanford)<\/p>\n<p>Nancy has: Elective in winter; can do whatever we want; needs to to know outline in one month.
